On July 28th 2022 several groups of new Machal recruits met with veterans to hear stories of “the early days” of Machal and their experiences which span over 70 years. Approximately 60 recruits met with veterans including Hyman Goldblatt (99), Murrary Greenfield (96), Myra Simon (96) and Saul Simon, Barry Scop (80s), Dorron Kline (54), Dave Bloom (69), Pearl Novick (85) and Zeev Schwartz. The project was initiated in cooperation with the Jewish Agency (Einat Weinbern), the Ministry of Defence (Uri Dror and Aviel Volvich) and World Machal under the title “Machal – Past, Present and Future”. The meetings lasted an average of 2 hours each and many stories, questions and discussions were exchanged in a wonderful atmosphere of comaraderie. The young recruits commented on how important these meetings were in understanding the legacy and significance of the early Machal volunteers and their contribution to protecting and building Israel. Here are some images from the meetings.
