WORLD MACHAL - Volunteers from overseas in the Israel Defense Forces

Yehuda Cohen

Yehuda Cohen was born in France in 1923, and arrived in Israel in 1948. He was immediately mobilized into the 7th Brigade.

His first mission with the brigade was to break through the road to Jerusalem by attacking and occupying the Latrun fortress held by the Jordanian Arab Legion.  The first attack failed, and after a number of days was repeated in Operation “Ben-Nun Bet.”  This time they were forced to retreat  because the attack again failed to remove the enemy. Yehuda Cohen fell in this operation on 31st May 1948.

On 17th November 1949 his body was re-interred in a common grave with other Fallen in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
