Jacobo, son of Joshua and Devora-Leah Guinesin, was born in Brizini Bessarabia, Romania, on 17th March, 1924, and at a young age moved to Chile with his parents. There he was educated in the “Shomer Hatzair” Zionist Movement, was active in its branches, and became a member of a group planning for Aliyah.
On arrival in Palestine (Eretz Yisael) he joined a group of Latin Americans of “Hashomer Hatzair” at Kibbutz Negba. He was diligent, quiet, and composed.
When the attacks against Negba began, at his request he took up the duties of sapper. He was known to have remarked “as the first sapper he could also be the last”. He fell on 5th August 1948 in a tragic incident when he stood on a mine in the Negba vineyards. He is buried at the kibbutz.
He was an only son and his mother died shortly after she was advised of his death. His father, a veteran devoted Zionist, immigrated to Israel.
Jacobo is recorded in the pages of the book “The Ravaged Storm,” published in memory of the Fallen of Negba.
