Bernard Fajerman, son of Yechiel and Judith, was born in Paris, France on November 10, 1927. He began studying in his native city, and then pursued more advanced studies in Marseille. He graduated after the liberation of Paris and obtained a diploma as a qualified Radio Engineer. He was a specialist in audio-visual technology.
Bernard was an ardent Zionist from childhood. As soon as the War of Independence started, he left his home and his work and enlisted as a volunteer (Machal). He arrived in Israel in May 1948 and was sent for training in the Negev to serve in the Givati Brigade. During that time, he wrote enthusiastic letters to his family about everything he experienced, heard and saw.
Bernard was killed during Operation Yoav on 17th October, 1948, in a battle that took place on the hills near Negba, and is buried in the military cemetery of Kfar Warbourg.
