September 2021 – In a very moving ceremony at the Ministry of Defence, Minister Benny Gantz awarded three MACHAL veterans certificates on behalf of all MACHAL volunteers who came “in Israel’s hour of need” to defend the fledgling state of Israel in 1947/8’s War of Independence.
Minister of Aliyah and Integration Pnina Tamano-Shata honoured the three veterans where she also welcomed the latest Garin Tzabar recruits to the IDF. Garin Tzabar is the modern equivalent of Machal. Seen below is Minister Benny Gantz with Smoky Simon (101) Myra Simon (96), Hymie Goldblatt (95)and Hyman Josman (92). Standing behind are the Tzabar recruits who have volunteered for IDF service and will be shortly commencing their tour of duty.
