Baruch Linsky was born to Beatrice and Harry Linsky on May 1st 1921 in Chicago, USA. When he was ten, his family moved to California, where he graduated in psychology from the University of California in Los Angeles in 1943. After receiving a master’s degree (M.A.) from Berkeley University, he moved to New York in 1945. There he began to express interest in Zionism, and he volunteered to help with illegal immigration (Aliyah Bet) activities.
Baruch was a member of the crew of the “Haim Arlosoroff” which sailed to South America, France, Italy and the Scandinavian countries in order to take on illegal immigrants. The ship was intercepted and boarded by the British in Haifa, and Baruch was taken to a detention camp in Cyprus, together with the crew and the illegal immigrants, where he remained for three months.
In 1947 he was released and received an entry visa for Israel. He spent several months at a kibbutz in the north, and then enrolled in the Hebrew University. In the spring of 1948, he volunteered for the Haganah.
Baruch Linsky was killed on May 26th 1948 at Hulda. He was buried there, and re-interred on October 26th 1950 in the military cemetery in Haifa.
