The son of Leon and Emma, Sergio Pabuncelo was born in Rome in Italy in 1927. He studied at elementary school and later became a trader.
When rumors reached Italy of the Arab harassment of the Jewish settlers following the United Nations Resolution, Sergio volunteered and was trained in a Haganah training camp in Italy, arriving in Israel by air in 1948. In the War of Independence he served in the Jerusalem Brigade. He was sent with his unit to accompany and guard the convoys traveling the Burma Road to besieged Jerusalem.
On 17th October 1948 he was hit and killed by an enemy bullet. He was buried at Sheik Bader “A,” and on 30th August 1950 he was re-interred in the Mount Herzl military cemetery.
